Jindaiji Temple is home to numerous cultural treasures, including the oldest National Treasure Buddha statue in eastern Japan—the Shaka Nyorai—and the largest portrait sculpture in Japan, the statue of Jikei Daishi.
Scattered across its spacious grounds are quietly compelling stone Buddhas, known to few. For over a decade, I have been drawn to these figures, photographing their serene presence.
Scattered across its spacious grounds are quietly compelling stone Buddhas, known to few. For over a decade, I have been drawn to these figures, photographing their serene presence.
Even in times when life was far from smooth, Jindaiji was simply there—receiving me in silence. When I placed my hands together in prayer, I remember how, for a brief moment, the heaviness lifted and my heart grew calm.
That experience became the wellspring of my photography. Just as I once was, I hope that someone, somewhere, might find peace or comfort through these images.
